Rotorcraft Aeromechanics

Detailed Performance, Wakes, Pressure and Loads for High Speed Single and Coaxial Rotors (NASA NRA)

[Peter Copp]

The objective of this research task is to develop unique comprehensive performance, detailed blade pressures, rotor wakes and dynamic benchmark test data using a series of Mach scale rotors. To isolate aeromechanics phenomena in high-speed flight, three different categories of rotors, respectively representing conventional rotors, active flap rotors, and coaxial rotors will be tested on our hover stand and in the Glenn L. Martin wind tunnel. Such detailed test data not only would provide many aeromechanics insights for advanced rotor systems, but also will be a key to develop reliable predictive capabilities.
